DesignEx Sydney - Tile and Stone Seminar
Last week saw DesignEx at the Sydney Exhibition Centre - not the bulldozed one, but the temporary building at Glebe Island. Within DesignEx was the tile and stone seminar, where there were 3 days of many different speakers. Each were experts in different facets of the tile and stone industry. All of the topics were incredibly interesting, from the scientific structure of bluestone (basalt), to the evolution and latest trends in tiling and installation. Efflorescence was a hot topic touched on by almost every speaker, but there is also a new problem emerging known as latex leaching, introduced to us...

Exclusive Tiles in Brookvale: new stockists of Efflock
We are delighted that Exclusive Tiles in Brookvale are now stockists of Efflock. "Efflock is an exciting product for us, as efflorescence has been a common problem among our trade customers" said Scott. "The simplicity of adding 1% Efflock into the water to provide permanent efflorescence protection is brilliant." "The additional waterproofing protection that Efflock provides in a bathroom against membrane failure, damp and mould resistance is also very exciting" he said. Exclusive Tiles are located...

'The Post' Apartments in Maroubra Commence Construction
Galand Constructions have commenced their new and exciting project, 'The Post'. This new multi storey apartment block will occupy the former site of the Maroubra Post Office which is now located in Pacific Square (a modern shopping centre across the road which incidentally, has a bit of an efflorescence problem). Galand Constructions are quality builders, and as such, were one of the very first builders to use and continue to use Efflock on their projects, since it was launched 12 months ago. They have an impressive portfolio of high-end architect designed homes, and will be applying the same high standards...

200 litres of Efflock for New Development
One of our selected stockists, Euro Abrasives in St Peters, has supplied 200 litres of Efflock to Casumo Constructions for a new multi storey residential complex in Mascot, near Sydney Airport. 'The Tempo' is a new residential complex in Botany Road, due for completion later this year. Efflorescence and water problems have caused major headaches in apartment buildings, as the current design trends feature rendered walls, planter boxes, and tiled balconies. Project manager for Casumo Constructions, Joe Metlage, enquired about Efflock late last month. "Like many builders, we've experienced problems with efflorescence in the past, and we are excited that...

Efflorescence in the UK
Efflorescence is clearly a problem the world over. Google has images and stories about efflorescence from all four corners of the globe. During a visit to the UK, we have seen efflorescence leaching from the face brickwork of many new buildings and brick fences. Common perception from most local tradesmen is that efflorescence comes from modern clay bricks. In some walls we have seen, the bricks do appear to produce salts which are seldom seen in Australia. However, for the most part, it does appear that porous mortar is the main culprit, or sometimes there is a combination of leaching from both...

All 3 bases are covered with Efflock
The genius of Efflock is that it is compatible with all cementitious mixes, including off the shelf tile adhesives and tile grouts. On a tiled floor, this means that all 3 layers that contribute to efflorescence can be protected - tile bed, tile adhesive and tile grout. And, it couldn't be easier. Simply add 1 part Efflock to 50 parts of water to use in all of your mixes for absolute confidence. No secondary membrane required! Above: Efflorescence appearing through porous grout joints.
