Presentation to TKD Architects
Thank you to TKD Architects for the invitation to present to a number of their architectural staff in their Surry Hills office today. I think Efflock was well received - in fact as of this afternoon Efflock was added into the specification for a project soon to commence tiling works in Bronte. For a link to their website and to see their impressive projects gallery, click on the logo below:

When salt attack hurts! - Scarborough Beach, Western Australia.
Check out the photo of these concrete pavers. They are adjacent to the beach shower at Scarborough Beach in Perth. Pavers in the splash zone have been eroded from salt attack, presumably from swimmers rinsing sand and salt from the beach. I was in Perth to visit local stores and to compete in the Australian Surf Lifesaving Titles, and I made the mistake of walking across these pavers in bare feet! The bits of gravel were particularly uncomfortable. Efflock is ideal for concrete block and paving manufacturers. Efflock prevents salt attack, as well as efflorescence and algae growth. Best of...

Fallen Life Savers Memorial at Coogee - Stonemasons choose Efflock.
A national memorial to commemorate the lives of fallen life savers during combat is nearing completion. The memorial at Coogee Beach in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs is due to open 27th April - the first Sunday following Anzac Day. Terraset Stonemasons are undertaking the stonework for the head contractor Hargraves Landscapes, using Sydney Sandstone. Efflock has been selected for the mortar mix to prevent efflorescence, reduce maintenance and prevent rising damp and salt attack.

Remedial Builders are quick to embrace Efflock
The remedial sector of the building industry is an area that appears to be growing, at least most obviously in the Sydney region. This is probably due to the increasing number of strata title buildings requiring repairs. Many repairs such as concrete cancer are simply becoming necessary as buildings from the first wave of strata schemes during the 1960s, reach 40 and 50 years old. With housing pressures across our cities, strata schemes and high rise developments are becoming even more common with new high rises constantly springing up in our suburbs. Unfortunately, new does not mean free of defects....

Salinity in Australia - a big problem that builders need to consider.
The Master Builders Association meeting held in Maitland last week had a very entertaining and informative guest speaker from the NSW Department of Primary Industries. The topic was urban salinity. Salt from the soil can have a very destructive and catastrophic effect on masonry in buildings. Salt is drawn up into masonry with rising damp, and over many years with wet and dry cycles, more and more salt is deposited into the point of evaporation, typically in brickwork or stonework below damp proof course [DPC] level. The pressure exerted by crystallising salt can exceed 200MPa, whilst the tensile resistant strength...

Sydney running out of sand - the ocean floor could be next.
A newspaper article in the Sydney Morning Herald has alerted to an imminent problem, and the answer could be at the bottom of the ocean. Salt content may be a bigger problem than ever in the sand supply, which is a major contributor towards efflorescence. Fortunately, by coincidence we've pre-empted this problem. Sitting in Boral's materials testing facility is long term testing of concrete samples mixed with water containing twice the salt content of the ocean and Efflock. After 12 months, efflorescence is still not evident, and retains hydrophobic effect. Check out the newspaper article here.

North Shore Timber and Hardware now selling Efflock
North Shore Timber and Hardware is the latest business to offer Efflock to the local building trade. North Shore Timber have six locations and have an excellent reputation throughout Sydney and in Gosford for quality building supplies. As the name suggests, NST are primarily timber merchants but do supply some sand and cement based products. As many small building contractors are from a carpentry background, we see that the partnership with NST will offer great exposure of the Efflock brand to small builders - who will in turn benefit with a dramatic reduction in building defects risks.
